A Running List: My 2015 Running Year in Review

Like last year, my goal for 2015 was to keep enjoying my running and to stay injury free. This year, I also decided to try to run a marathon for time when I won an entry to the Phoenix Marathon from Carlee. With the downhill profile and time of year, I decided it was my kind of race. (It was! Read about it here.) This year (so far), I ran over 2,500 miles including 3 marathons and 9 half marathons and 11 other races. I ran my fastest marathon since 2006! See my quarterly reviews for race summaries and products I loved(Q1, Q2, Q3). So here is my recap and I am linking up with Courtney to share my year in running.

Here is my 2015 running year in review:

2015 Year in Running

# of Miles Run – 2562

# of Races Run– 23 – 7 less than last year! New to the line up this year were the Phoenix Marathon, Grandma’s Marathon (check that one of the marathon bucket list!) and a cross country race for grown ups. It was split into Masters and open so we got to cheer for our young friends. 23 – marathons (3), half marathons (9), 10 milers (1), 10K (2), 8k (2), 5k (6) – 6 less than last year. So fun. Most of the results are on Athlinks if you are interested.

# of Miles Run in Races –259.5 – 13 miles less raced than last year.

# of Age Group Awards-12! 5 less than last year but I ran less races, too. My times were slower this year mostly but not by too much! I also made it to the podium (top 3 women) three times in small 5Ks. I picked well this year!

Fun Race Destinations– NYC (3 – including Brooklyn Half this year), Phoenix and San Luis Obispo (with Erin)

Healdsburg run!

Coolest Non-Race Runs: – Medellin, Colombia on a huge closed avenue, CA wine country, NJ at By Pond Farm, Central Park

Best Race– PHOENIX! I had a plan, a mantra and a mission! It was my best marathon time since 2006. I felt amazing. I also met blogger friends IRL and had a blast with Susie who crushed it for her first BQ.

Worst Race– Oak Brook Half – another hot mess. Literally. Worst time in a few years, but it is a neat course. I would like to try it on a cooler day.

Personal Records (PRs)- 0. Should have run that 12K or 50K or something I have never done. Maybe next year!

Star sightings
Star sightings

Star Sightings:  In August, a bunch of us went to a Fleet Feet Chicago event and saw Lauren Fleshman again and Summer Sanders, too, this year! I also had the opportunity to meet Joan Benoit Samuelson with Nike before the Chicago Marathon. Oops, Erin and I met Steph (Rothstein) Bruce at SLO and she won the race when she was 5 months pregnant. She was so gracious and took pics with us, too. Very cool!

Ambassadorships: Esprit de She Chicago (repeat) Esprit de She has a great post run festival (wine and lots of freebie goodies from great sponsors) and good spirit. I was third in the 5K this year and Amanda won! We also got to know second place winner, Kristen! I became a Janji Corps member and now I am officially a CEP Compression ambassador! I don’t even know what that entails yet but I will let you know!!

Number of Sidelining Injuries– 1. I made it through NYC healthy and then got a little hamstring pull that became a tear because I kept running on it. Should have known better. Fingers crossed that this will heal in time for the races I have signed up for in 2016!

Best Running Advice I Received This Year: Don’t short change recovery.

Best New Running Product I Tried: This is SO tough – like picking a favorite child, friend or pet. The list is long and I recommend you check out all of the awesome products I checked out this year! Go to giveaways and review. I may do a whole separate post on this!

For a blogging runner, that’s a lot of running blogging! My goals for 2016 are to heal up, keep having fun and celebrate my 20th anniversary of marathoning at my first (San Francisco) and second (NYC) race locations. Who is with me?

How was your year in running?? Please tell me about it in the comments.
