Raw Athletics strives to reduce overall chemical exposure from everyday products that have been proven to cause diseases such as asthma and other respiratory sensitivities. That’s a pretty great goal, right?
Vapor Fresh Laundry Detergent is designed to “safely and effectively eliminate odors and extend the life of your workout clothes.” It is also safe for everyday fabrics. It is free of fragrances, dyes, softeners and brighteners. It is great for people who are sensitive to perfumes and chemicals in detergents. Vapor Fresh is formulated with biodegradable surfactants and is completely free of harmful environmental toxins such as dioxanes and phosphates. It also doesn’t clog up wicking technical fabrics with any gunk (the technical word). It’s also formulated for a cold-water wash which is better for the environment.
Men’s Journal gave them a shout out this summer by calling it “The Miracle Soap.” They said, “Modern technical fabrics eventually take on a stench that’s all but impossible to get out. Raw Athletics’ Vapor Fresh Detergent makes them smell fresh as new, plus it won’t ruin their wicking ability.”
OK – so how well does it work? I put Vapor Fresh to the test on my sweaty summer running gear and The Husband’s racing suit. He has been wearing the same suit since 2008 on a lot of hot, sweaty days with no A/C in his race car. It does not smell great on its best days!
The racing suit, all of my gear and a load of towels came out great. The detergent is “unscented” but has a very, very mild pleasant smell. The clothes did not smell at all. They were clean and fresh. The best thing for me was that even on dark colors, there was no powder residue. That drives me crazy! Vapor Fresh is a winner and it can be used in regular or high efficiency washers. They recommend a pre-soak for best results. I did not pre-soak this time and still had solid results.
