Revisit a Finds’ Fave: GoMacro MacroBar Minis #Giveaway

mu_GVJGjEvery month, one of my most popular posts is my original review of GoMacro Macrobars bars from 2013. If you followed me then, you may remember my elimination diet. It was tough to find products with no gluten, no dairy and no eggs. I raided the energy bar section in Whole Foods. I tried GoMacro’s Sunny Uplift – Cherries + Berries Bar and a Protein Paradise – Cashew Caramel bar and I was hooked. I wrote to them and they sent me a whole box to try. Recently, I wrote to them to tell them that they are still getting great results on my blog and they offered to send me a box of GoMacro Minis – 100 calorie versions of all 11 flavors – to enjoy and share. They also offered to giveaway an assorted box of 24 to one lucky reader so read on!

Before I get into the details, I will tell you a bit more about GoMacro, because they are an awesome company. GoMacro makes “healthy, delicious, environmentally responsible energy bars in rural Wisconsin. [Their] MacroBars are USDA organic, vegan, gluten free and are made with the highest quality ingredients.” Amelia Kirchoff, Owner of GoMacro, explains:

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, [her farm in Wisconsin] became my haven, my “pause from pain.” I was in the perfect place for converting to a macrobiotic diet; a diet in which all fruits and vegetables should be homegrown and eaten in season. As my health improved so did my appetite and I craved the sweets I used to eat. I immediately started to experiment with natural sweeteners and the grains and fruits grown on the farm to create macrobiotic desserts…

The company has 5 Principles: Live long (with macrobiotics), Veg out (vegan and mostly plants), Be well (wholesome), Community (giveback) and Tread Lightly (sustainably sourced.) OK, so I am totally on board with these ideals and love their story. And great news, the bars taste amazing.

All the flavors in easy to bring along bite sized bars!

GoMacro Minis are 100 calorie versions of all of the awesome GoMacro Bar flavors. Since I have tried these all before, I shared the minis with my friends. I also took a bunch to Colombia with us and gave Rhys a bunch to take on her travels. She loves GoMacro and was not able to find them in South America!

I carried around, ate and shared a bunch of GoMacro Minis in Colombia and only got one cool shot on the cable car. Blogger fail!

GoMacro bars have all natural ingredients and taste so healthy. I mean that in a good way. A few of the flavors are subtle and grew on me as I ate them. The bars are chewy and soft with an occasional crunch. I was initially surprised that they are not similar to Lara Bars. The nuts and seeds and nut butters have a more prominent flavor in these bars. You can taste the real food here. The peanut butter + chocolate bars have full pieces of peanut, whole chocolate chips and pieces of dates. The other thing I like about these bars was that they are filling and not too sweet. Some energy bars – even ones with higher calories like the protein ones – that are sweet leave me wanting to eat something else.

There are 11 great flavors: Cashew Caramel, Cashew Caramel, Cherries + Berries, Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter + Chocolate Chip, Sesame Butter + Dates, Granola + Coconut, Almond Butter + Carob, Sunflower Butter + Chocolate, Banana + Almond Butter and Apples + Walnuts. The mini assortment that I received and will giveaway has a few of each!

Stealing this cute photo from Sapna – some of my faves here!

It is hard to pick a favorite. If I had to pick a few favorites, I would say that the Sesame Butter + Dates, Peanut Butter + Chocolate Chip, Cherries + Berries and Apples + Walnuts are my favorites. The Sesame Butter + Date blew me away. I just love it! It is so rich and delicious. The fruit flavors are also amazing and not too sweet despite the dried fruit. I also love Granola + Coconut (and the mini 100 calorie bar is the perfect “little something”). I shared a Peanut Butter with Maureen and she loved the consistency, real peanuts and found that it was a perfect thing to tide her over while seeing her Pilates clients. Stacy liked the Cashew Caramel a lot, too! Like me, she loved the fact that the flavor seemed to really grow on her, that it was not too sweet and that it was very satisfying.
