Good For You + Tastes Good, Too! Bite Fuel Review + #Giveaway

X9hWzvHR_400x400I received some Bite Fuel protein cookies in a Fit Snack box and some Bite Fuel granola in a Yumvelope and I was intrigued. They are gluten free, non-GMO and high protein. They also contain no soy, preservatives or trans fats. Of course, I wondered if they tasted good. I didn’t wonder long, I dug right into the Chocolate Chip Power Bites. I liked the taste and texture. The protein is whey protein, but I didn’t notice a protein powder taste. I checked out the granola and then I wrote to Bite Fuel. They sent me more samples to try and offered a great giveaway for one lucky reader. Read on to learn more and enter to win.

Bite Fuel is a brother-sister run company in Oregon City, Oregon that specializes in tasty “functional foods.” Eric and Tiffany Shen grew up in California with a mom who did not believe in junk food. This meant that they tried a lot of “health food” and it did not suit their palates. Fast forward to today, they struggled to find “great tasting, good-for-you, convenient food.” Together, they “strive to create innovative products that are nutritious and delicious with natural, premium ingredients.”

Eric sent me a sampler of cookies and granola trail mixes. The granola comes in three flavors: Blue Mango, Red Berry and Go Pecanas. The cookies come in Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip. I tried everything plus I had a few extras from recent subscription boxes so I shared with my friend, Amanda.

I have a tough time with portion control with granola, so I was excited for the sample packs. They recommend the granola with milk, sprinkled on yogurt or right out of the bag. I went with almond milk and a small cup. The granola has a good mix of oats to fruit and nuts. It is very filling and sweet, but not too sweet. I like all three flavors, but Go Pecanas is my favorite. I did not notice the mango in the Blue Mango, but liked that one a lot, too. There is a slight after taste from the whey protein. I still enjoyed it and liked the extra protein to help fill me up, so I didn’t take down half of the large bag in one sitting. Amanda tried the Red Berry and she said, “Good ratio of nuts and dried fruit to oats. Slight after taste (maybe the whey protein?) but overall it is delicious.”

Amanda loved the Chocolate Chip Protein Cookies. She said,

Usually when I see things like “protein cookies” and messages about “guilt free snacking,” I won’t even give the product a second glance. I eat well, get in my fruits, veggies and protein. When I want a cookie at the end of the day, it’s going to have real butter and I’m going to enjoy the heck out of it.

To say I was skeptical of these cookies would be an understatement. Thank goodness that Erica needed a second taster to get me out of that mindset! The cookies were chewy and had just the right amount of sweetness. Amazingly, I was satisfied after the serving size of two cookies (7g sugar, 6g protein, and a good dose of fat from the coconut oil). Typically, my sweet tooth takes over and 15 minutes later the entire pint of ice cream is gone. I’m a happy soon-to-be customer!

My fave was the Peanut Butter. Like Amanda, I was skeptical. The peanut butter cookies are rich and delicious. They are soft and chewy and didn’t taste like “health food.” I can’t lie, I had 3 (1.5 servings), but I found them very satisfying. They did not leave me wanting for more sweets like some “healthy” cookies can. I can see incorporating these as a weekly treat in my diet for sure.
