Tried It Tuesday: New Fave Finds From The Feed #Giveaway

feed_400x400If you have ever read this blog, you know I am a bit obsessed with trying new things – especially new health and fitness products. I was turned on to The Feed by one of the companies I profiled: Rev’d.  My favorite thing about The Feed is that you can buy to try. They offer single servings (as well as boxes and subscriptions) for new, and innovative fitness nutrition products (and some old faves, too!) They “search high and low to find the best, most unique, and obscure brands out there. [They] research everything and personally test every item [they] offer.” They also have an awesome referral program where people who sign up for their email get $5 and the referrers get $10. So please  sign up and then tell your friends to get credit!

Here are a few finds that I tried from The Feed and then worked with the companies to get more samples to try and share:

breeze bars
Breeze Bars come in 5 flavors. Source (L)

Breeze Bars like to call themselves “the anti-energy bar”. Founder Breeze Brown, a registered dietician, realized that many athletes needs weren’t being met by traditional energy bars. Breeze created a bar that is easy to digest, giving athletes more immediate, useable energy. Each Breeze Bar is produced and packaged locally in Boulder, Colorado. They make everything in house and in small batches to ensure freshness and quality control so you get the best snack possible. Breeze Bars are “made individually, by individuals, for individuals!” With a 4.5 : 1 ratio carbohydrate to protein the product is a great source of quick and sustainable energy! All flavors are gluten and dairy free and you can see the pieces of real food in each bar.

Breeze Bars have about 250 calories per 2oz bar. They come in 5 flavors: Original Peanut Crunch, Chocolate Cranberry, Maple Almond, Cocoa Espresso and Nut Free Sunflower. They use crispy brown rice – so imagine a healthy, rice crispy treat with some of your fave energy ingredients added.

The Feed’s Faves: Nut Free Sunflower and Cocoa Espresso. My fave is Maple Almond. Susie and I shared the Original Peanut Crunch on the way to lunch in Phoenix before the marathon so that we would not get hangry. It worked and we dug it. I also love that they are affordable – only $1.99/2 oz. bar. They also have 1 oz bars that are perfect for a little boost, pre-run or for kids.

epic hunter gatherer
Epic Hunter Gatherer Mixes

I also saw that on The Feed that my fave EPIC bar had a new jerky trail mix and new bar flavors. In addition to its EPIC meat based energy bars, EPIC now makes “Hunter / Gatherer” mixes. One side is jerky and the other side is a mixture “inspired by foraging diets.” There are four flavors: Beef Jerky + Berry Blossom, Beef Jerky + Harvest Nuts, Beef Jerky + Mountain Medley and Beef Jerky + Toasted Coconut.

The mixes are delicious and are packed with vitamins, antioxidants, protein and omega-3’s. These mixes are great to take on a hike or on a plane or as an afternoon snack wherever life takes you. The packaging is clever in that it keeps the jerky separate from the nuts and fruit. However it is hard to mix and it is two servings per container. The Feed recommends (and I agree) to mix a serving in a baggie and take it with you!

Feed’s Fave: Mountain Medley. My fave: Berry Blossom. These are $6.49 on The Feed for 2 servings.

chicken EPIC
EPIC Bites and new flavors.

Last year, when I reviewed EPIC Bars (post).  There were four flavors of EPIC Bars: Turkey Almond + Cranberry, Bison Bacon+ Cranberry, Beef Habanero + Cranberry and Lamb Currant + Mint. There are two new flavors that I tried from The Feed: Chicken Sriracha and Chicken BBQ Sesame. They also now have EPIC Bites which are jerky sized pieces of spiced meats. EPIC Bites are rich in protein, low in sugar, gluten free, grain free, soy free and dairy free. These are all really delicious.

You can keep up with EPIC Bar on Facebook and Twitter.
