Spring Clean Your Diet (and Dandelion Root Tea #Giveaway)

The calendar says it is spring... so it must be spring. It is time to spring clean your diet. How? spring clean diet fi 1. Get rid of junk food. Start now (or after the Easter candy is gone) and clean up your cabinets. Get rid of low nutrition items. You know the ones I mean. I am looking at you Lucky Charms and potato chips. See some great ideas from Men's Health here on what to ditch and how to replace it. 2. Eat fresh vegetables, legumes, raw nuts and seeds. This will help aid the body’s natural cleansing processes. Include plenty of fresh herbs and spices to aid digestion. Here are some spice tips from Livestrong. 3. Stock up on fruits and veggies from your local farmer's markets or CSA. I use Door to Door Organics here in Chicago. (If you want to try Door to Door, leave a comment with your email address and I will send you a code for $15 off) Check out this great list of seasonal fruits and vegetables to be on the look out for from Everyday Health. Add greens to every meal! Even breakfast. You can do it! 4. Curb Your Sweet Tooth. The nice folks at Ragnar had some great tips for this including:

  • Grab Fruit Instead: The sugar in fruit will help ward off your craving, and the fiber will make you full!
  • Eat Regularly: Waiting too long in between your meals can bring on sugar cravings.
  • Make Your Sweets Count: Artificial sweeteners may sound like solution, but they won’t lessen your craving, and can make you feel deprived. Instead eat the full sugar version of what you really want – just don’t go overboard.
5. Eat good fats from nuts, olive and flaxseed, chia and hemp seed, tahini, nut oil, avocado and oily fish. Good fats make your body work better and make your skin and hair look nicer, too. Here is the science on this - from Harvard. 6. Drink more water! Don't like water? Try seltzer or add Cocogo or SOS Rehydrate - awesome low calorie, electrolyte solutions. Or add a splash of citrus - try a fruit infusion bottle like a Zing Anything Citrus Zinger. 7. Try apple cider vinegar, lemon water or herbal teas to aid digestion. Through my relationship with Brandbacker, I was offered the opportunity to try Kiss Me Organics' Organic Dandelion Root Tea with Hibiscus & Cinnamon Tea. And great news, I have extra tea to share with two readers. Kiss Me Organics Dandelion Root Tea This tea contains cinnamon and hibiscus. They say that hibiscus has been shown to help regulate blood pressure and cinnamon has been shown to regulate blood sugar and reduce bad cholesterol. The tea is intended to detox the liver and kidneys from toxins that can build up over time. Raw dandelion root provides Vitamins A, C, D and B-complex plus Iron, Potassium and Zinc. These are known to aid in digestion and boost the immune system. The tea is USDA Organic certified and comes with a hassle-free, lifetime guarantee. The tea is light and tastes like cinnamon and there is not a strong flowery taste - just a hint of hibiscus. It is a nice warm drink at the end of the day. I added some additional cinnamon for a stronger flavor. I shared some with Susie and she gave it a "Thumbs Up!" She said, "I thought the dandelion tea was really good! It was very light - almost like a hot tea version of spa water. There is also cinnamon and hibiscus in it, but you don't get so much hibiscus, you get more of the light smell of cinnamon. Perfect for when you want something warm and comforting but don't want a full on tea or just hot water. Thumbs up!" The contest has ended. The winners are Heather and Amanda C. Want to try it? I will send two winners each one 20 count box of Organic Dandelion Root Tea with Hibiscus & Cinnamon Tea.
