Tried It Tuesday: Farmer’s Fridge

06eb8b2d1ac4f7e9a7af06f7b55b7b13Farmer’s Fridge is a fresh, health food line in – wait for it – vending machines. They make delicious salads, wraps, snacks and breakfasts that are fresh and handmade. They are on a mission to make “real tasting food” that can be “really good for you and really easy to get.” You can add protein to your salads and other extras.

In November, I met my friend, Jeff, to tell him about the windy, NYC Marathon. We met at the food court at 600 North Michigan and I was delighted to find a Farmer’s Fridge kiosk. I had been meaning to try it. Jeff went and got the usual at Mezza and I went to check out the Farmer’s Fridge!

The ordering system is super clever. I’ll admit, I found it pretty entertaining. The menu is posted overhead and on the computer. Ordering was like playing a video game and then, voila, fresh food came out with the swipe of my credit card! I ordered the North Napa Salad with chicken as my protein. The dressing is in its own container inside the salad so that it is not soggy. The salad was fresh and delicious.

The entrees come also come in great reusable jars that you can recycle with them or keep for yourself. You can shake up your salad and eat right from the jar. So easy!

Two Day Detox!

I saw a two day detox home delivery from Farmer’s Fridge on Gilt City. It seemed like a good deal for three meals per day, so I bought it. You know I love a good deal! I was able to select 2 breakfast items, 2 lunch items, 2 dinners and 2 snacks. I got:

  • An oatmeal and a Quinoa Breakfast for breakfasts
  • The High Protein Salad and the Antioxidant Salad, with chicken and tuna as proteins for lunches
  • An Asian Stir Fry and Grilled Veggies with BBQ sauce for dinners
  • Double Chocolate Cherry Cookie Dough (Vegan & Gluten Free) and Cauliflower Fried Rice for snacks.

My faves are the High Protein Salad and the Antixoidant Salad. I liked all of the food. All of items were amazingly fresh and obviously were super easy to prepare. The dinners just required a plate, a microwave and a fork. They all have great nutritional profiles, too. I was super impressed. On the full menu, I noticed that even the “Cheater” has a good nutritional profile.

There are currently 9 Farmer’s Fridge Kiosks in Chicago including The Shops at Nordstrom and several 7-11 stores in Chicago. They also offer catering and home delivery! You can check out Farmer’s Fridge online, on Twitter and Facebook. I am not sure when they are expanding, but keep an eye out! (And Farmer’s Fridge if you are reading this – please open kiosks at O’Hare and Midway! Pretty please?)

Please note: I was not compensated for this post. Farmer’s Fridge does not know me and did not solicit this post. I think it is a cool idea and I loved my experience with them so I decided to tell you about it! If you see them, give them a try.
