If you read this blog, you know I am not a whiz in the kitchen. However, I am always game to try something new. I was given the opportunity by Tomoson to try a “Best Nut Milk Bag” from Vita Nut Milk Bag, so I decided to give it a go. And, I am glad that I did! It was easy, not messy and I love the end product.

The folks at Vita Nut milk bag suggest that their product is easy and mess-free and without the hassles of cheaper versions. They say that you cen make healthy, smooth almond milk, nut milks, cold brew coffee and juices while saving time and money. I like the sound of that. Here are some features of the product:

  • Ultra fine, high quality mesh bag so you only have to strain once.
  • Fine mesh means less waste – more milk comes through
  • No holes or tears and double reinforced stitching last longer and works better
  • Tight weave so less residue is left behing
  • Reinforced drawstring makes drying quick, complete and sanitary
  • You get a Recipe E-Book with nut milk and juicing recipes specially designed for use with the Vita Nut Milk Bag.

I ordered my Best Nut Milk Bag from Amazon and downloaded the free e-book. I decided to start with the basics and made “Basic Almond Milk.” Here is the recipe:

Basic Almond Milk (Yield: 3.5 cups)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw almonds, soaked in water
  • 3.5 cups filtered water
  • 2-4 pitted Medjool dates*, to taste (for an unsweeted Almond Milk, omit dates) [I used 1 large date, a splash of vanilla extract and a sprinkle of cinnamon.]
  • Small pinch of fine grain sea salt, to enhance the flavor

Directions:

almonds
1. Place almonds in a bowl and cover with water. It’s preferred to soak them overnight (for 8-12 hours) in the water, but you can get away with soaking for 1-2 hours in a pinch.
a milk blender

2. Rinse and drain the almonds and place into a blender along with filtered water and pitted dates (optional). [I used one date and a bit of vanilla extract.]
3. Blend on highest speed for 1 minute or so.

Voila!
Voila! It really was easy.

4. Place your Vita Nut Milk Bag over a large bowl and slowly pour the almond milk mixture into the bag. Hold the top of the bag closed and gently squeeze the bottom of the bag to release the milk.
5. Pour into a glass, airtight jar to store in the fridge for up to 3-5 days. Shake jar very well before using as the mixture separates when sitting.
Notes: If your dates are dry/stiff, soak in water to soften before use. You can also use another sweetener of your choice like maple syrup, honey or agave.

This could not have been easier and the milk is light and has a great flavor! Laura suggested I may never go back to store-bought and I think she is right! My coffee is delicious. I saved the almond meal. Anyone have any ideas for this?
