I have seen this tip a bunch of places, but I got a great reminder from HealthTap, that SMILING makes you happier and can positively influence your health. I know for running races when I feel the most tired or pained, I try to remember to smile. Experts say that you feel less pained when you smile!

Check out this tip and great TED Talk from HealthTap CEO Ron Gutman:

“We all know smiling feels good, but did you know it can positively affect your health, too? A big grin releases endorphins, the feel-good chemicals in the brain. When you smile, your brain tells your body to relax, slowing your heart rate and dropping your blood pressure. Smiles are contagious, too. So when you flash your pearly whites to those around you, they’re getting a dose of those feel-good chemicals when they smile back.

Did you know that you can help your body feel better with a fun trick, even if you’re in less than high spirits? Studies suggest that just acting relaxed may help you actually feel relaxed. So give it a try the next time you could use a boost. For even more suggestions, HealthTap’s doctors can help you discover even more ways to feel good today and beyond.”

Here is the Ted Talk:

Check out HealthTap‘s great blog post that accompanies the talk called the Untapped Powers of Smiling. It contains more of the facts and data!
