Friday Finds: TV Food Finder, “Ride” the Travel Pony and More!

tvfoodmapsIn the totally random but totally awesome category, check out TVFoodMapsTVFoodMaps started in late 2010 with “one very simple goal – help people find and eat at the restaurants they see on great food and travel television shows.” It was founded by two brothers who do a lot of travel for business and pleasure. They watched shows like Diners, Drive-Ins & DivesMan v. Food, etc. However, they noticed that finding/remembering the restaurants was usually a pain.

The website or apps would be great for hitting a new town or trying something new in your home city. I put in my zipcode and landed 104 restaurants that were featured on 39 shows. You can search for a specific show if you are trying to remember the details from a specific show you saw. It displays the restaurant, reviews, TV shows it was on, summary, cost rating and their “medal” rating

TVFoodMaps now features 39 shows and almost 4,000 restaurants and bars. They have mobile apps for both Android and iPhone/iPad. Also,their blog is a great way to keep up with what’s going on with the site. You can also like them on Facebook or follow on Twitter.

I can’t wait to try this next time I am traveling!

travel pony logoAnd speaking of traveling, have you checked out Travel Pony? Travel Pony is a hotel booking website with everyday prices that are often 10-70% below the big travel sites. To use Travel Pony, you need to login via Facebook (no data/auto posting required), that “unlocks” preferred pricing and some of the best deals around on hotels. TravelPony has launched in over 20 markets with over 2,000 top hotel partners, making it one of the best sites to get a deal and book a hotel room.

Travel Pony relies on their customers to spread the word and creates “deals” by sharing their marketing budget back to the consumer. Some additional cool stuff: Prices on TravelPony aren’t last minute rates, they’re everyday low rates, Travel Pony shows customers every price it can find for the same hotel room on different websites and you can share your deals on social media but that is not required. Also, most bookings I have searched for have not required pre-payment/no change as some discount travel sites tend to do. I found some great rates for NYC marathon weekend for some of my friends recently and they are refundable.

That’s all for now! I feel like I should say here (as I have been all week to everyone…) “I am not running the Boston Marathon on Monday.” That said, I am sending many friends and will be cheering them and all of the runners from here. May they all be safe and well, have the wind at their backs and run with joy!
