Another New Finds’ Fave: Manna Organics Bakery Review+Giveaway

manna fiLast week I mentioned that when I moved to Chicago, it did not seem like the bastion of health to me. I never expected to find healthy, creative, organic foods. In the past seven years, things have changed. Now, I feel like I am finding new local businesses all of the time that promote healthy eating and wellness. Last week I wrote about Red Wall Kitchen and this week, I am going to tell you about another great Chicago company called Manna Organics that I found through Door to Door Organics, my CSA. [As an aside, if any Chicago folks want to try Door to Door, let me know and I can email you a code for 50% off on your first produce box. I get a small box every other Tuesday which is perfect for us.]

They say, "It’s not really bread. It can be best described as a meal of whole sprouted grains, moist and denser than bread. Muffin- or cakelike in consistency. Baked at low temperatures for a short time – almost raw. Nothing like other sprouted breads out there! It doesn’t rise, has no yeast, no salt, no flour, no oils. Very delicious and different."

Before I started my elimination diet, I ordered several delicious sprouted Manna Bread loaves from Door To Door Organics. Manna Organics is a family owned and operated bakery in Lisle, Illinois. All of their products are vegan, kosher, organic and carefully hand-made. Their signature product is the sprouted Manna Bread loaves , cake-like, free of salt, no oils, no sweeteners, no leavening agents. Manna Bread is moist and delicious, high in protein and fiber. The flavors are super delicious. I love the Carrot Raisin and Fig, Fennel and Flax. I am sure that they are all delicious.

When I eliminated gluten, I tried their gluten free Ancient Grains loaf and their gluten free Cinnamon Raisin breads. I liked the Ancient Grains, but it is pretty crumbly. It was perfect with soup or as a side, but a bit too crumbly for sandwiches. The Cinnamon Raisin is perfect for me. It held together well and tasted delicious. I loved it with peanut butter. I shared some of both with Annabelle and she agreed. The Cinnamon Raisin is a serious keeper. She loved it and used it to fuel her awesome Chicago Marathon!

I wrote to Manna Organics and they sent me more bread (YAY) and one of their delicious “Manna Butter” spreads. You know I love nut butter! They sent me Raw Cinnamon Date Manna Butter. For Jewish folks,  the taste reminded me a bit of the best Passover charoset you ever had. The spread is delicious. It did not spread super easily, but I loved it in my oatmeal and in my almond milk yogurt. And I ate it, of course, straight from the jar. I cannot wait to try some of the other flavors – like Amaretto Almond or Fig and Nut!

They also sent me some Manna Munchies kale chips in “Say Cheese” flavor. I have to say, these were not as “cheesy” as some of the other brands. I liked them added to my salad for a bit of crunch and taste, but I would not be as likely to eat straight from the bag.

All in all, I love Manna Organics. Their breads are amazing and the nut butters, too. They are also a great family owned business that focuses on hand making fresh, delicious, organic foods. What is not to love?

Great news, the good folks at Manna Organics are offering one lucky reader the same awesome goodies I got – 2 loaves of GF bread, nut butter and kale chips.
