Friday Finds: A Helpy Slice, Brooks High Does Good & Great Deals

As an avid online shopper, I was intrigued when Stacy asked if I had tried Slice, an app that was called “an online shopper’s best friend” and “the best iPhone shopping tracker. How did I miss this one? Meet Slice. Slice offers a great way to track and organize your online shopping. With this Android/iPhone app or website, you can easily get all your purchase info on the go. Slice works with many of the top email providers — including Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, AOL and iCloud — to find receipts in your inbox and automatically organize your purchases so you can save time, and maybe some money, too.

Slice has a lot of features!
Slice has a lot of features!

Slice lets you:

  • Track packages and returns.
  • Save money with Slice’s Price Drop Alerts – they’ll send you push notifications when one of your items is eligible for a price adjustment so you can recoup the difference.
  • Get cash back from a number of merchants.
  • Organize all of your purchases and keep track of vouchers for deal sites. All of your receipts are stored so you can easily reach customer service or get information on your purchases.
  • Find out your “shopping DNA”. Discover your “Thingerprint™” – your personalized shopping DNA.
  • See how much you spend online and on which categories and items. [Ack, I am a bit scared of this one!]

You can get Slice for Android or iPhone and it is free. They also have a bookshelf app for organizing and sharing books. I think I will stick to GoodReads! (Has anyone tried the Slice Bookshelf app?)

Good stuff – I will try it out and let you know what I think! Do you use an app or website like this?

Here is another great “Friend’s Find” – this one comes from Adam. One of Adam’s patients is an Assistant Principal at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep High School in Chicago. Students were looking for service hours and they decided to run the Chicago Marathon for Team World Vision to raise funds to help people in Africa to live a better life.

Here is their press release:

“Last spring all junior and sophomore students were asked, “Who needs service learning hours and who wants to help save lives?” The response was tremendous and inspiring! At Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep 47 students and 2 staff members are currently committed to running the Chicago Marathon this Sunday. The reason we are running is to make an impact in Africa. According to World Vision, $50 will provide clean drinking water for an African for her entire life. They do this through building wells, irrigation canals, water piping systems, rock catchments; providing latrine and hygiene education; and by supplying PUR packets for emergencies. Students will learn from experts, conduct their own research, and present to different audiences concerning the need for clean water in Africa.

Since April 17th, the Brooks Team World Vision has been preparing for the Chicago Marathon taking place October 13, 2013. Brooks College Prep is the first high school team to ever join Team World Vision – the largest non-profit team that runs the Chicago Marathon. Between April and October the team has run a total of 584 miles. That’s 18 more miles than a round trip from Chicago to Detroit! Our team’s fundraising goal is $10,000 which translates into providing clean drinking water for 200 African children! Currently, the team has raised $8,325 toward its goal. You can learn more (and donate) to the team at teamworldvision.org/goto/BrooksHS or visit the school website at http://brookscollegeprep.org/

Be a part of history and support Brooks!”

You can learn more in their promotional video:

What a cool (and challenging) thing to do! The team is close to their goal, but not there yet, so please consider supporting them! I will be out there cheering for them!
