Friday Finds: Closet Angels, More Great Ways to Support Boston & Deals!

Sometimes I buy things on sale that are not perfect for me and leave them hanging with the tags on. I am trying to change this, but old habits die hard. Other times, I love something, but I have nothing to wear it with. At the end of the day, I usually wind up giving it away. Daily Candy had a great suggestion on a way to make good on these mistakes:

“Before you sacrifice your purchase to any old consignment shop (or, worse, let it sit unworn in your closet), call on Closet Angels. The national nonprofit collects and resells gently used men’s, women’s, and children’s designer clothing and accessories ($50 and over) and donates 100 percent of the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Simply email Chicago-based founders Jayna Cooke and Regina Franchini with your haul info; they’ll send you boxes and shipping materials. Unsure of what’s donation-worthy? They’ll drop by for a pick-up and comprehensive closet reorganization. [Note: the consultation is currently available in Chicago only.]

Items are sold on eBay or on full-commission consignment.

In the end, you get a tax donation receipt.”

On their website they indicate that they are looking for women’s, men’s or children’s clothing in excellent condition, with designer labels and a value of over $50. To learn more go to Closet Angels.

zealousIf that is too rich for your blood (and you are in Chicago), check out my friends at Zealous Good. Zealous Good is an organization that helps match donations to organization that need them. These include: ALL clothes, household and office goods, appliances, furniture, computers and more. Click here to submit your donation and they’ll find a charity that can benefit. Click HERE to learn more about my experience with Zealous Good! I am a huge fan!

The folks at Saucony had six [great] ways to help support Boston.

sauconyMy favorite new one was to donate Boston Marathon medals to Medals4Mettle (M4M). M4M is a non-profit organization that facilitates the gifting of marathon, half marathon, and triathlon finishers’ medals to people fighting debilitating illnesses who might not be able to run a race, but are in a race of their own just to continue to live their life. Medals4Mettle will accept donations of Boston Marathon finishers’ medals from this year or past years. They will then place Medals4Mettle ribbons on them and award them to the courageous victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon and the first responders that raced to help them. To donate, please send medals to their Boston Area chapters listed on their chapter page. I think I have a couple that will head that way!

boston medallionSaucony is also selling cool lace medallions for $5.

Nice work Saucony! Now if you could only bring back my Grid Azuras! (Those look sooooo retro now!)
