A Running List – 2012 Running Highlights

In 2011, my goal was to run less and I did. I had been plagued by injuries and needed a break. I did run less – partially because I decided to train for the 200 mile Ride for AIDS and partially due to a scary medical issue (DVT in my leg!) After completing the ride and recovering from the clot, I was not sure what 2012 would bring running-wise. I ended 2011 in great shape due to my 40th b-day present to myself CorePower Yoga Bootcamp (All Bootcamp – yoga on your own time for 6 days a week for 2 weeks.) My running pace was improving, too. I was set for a good start in 2012.

Here is my 2012 running year in review:

Coolest Non-Race Runs: NYC in Central Park on “Marathon Sunday” and Cape Town S Africa up towards Table Mountain!

Best raceCarlsbad Half Marathon. It was not my fastest this year but it was the first race since 2007 that I felt really strong and I achieved my goal time to qualify for NYC marathon in my new age group

Worst race– none. I was grateful for all of them! (FF Chicago Women’s Half was especially tough due to heat!)

Number of falls– 2. One was spectacular in execution (WFG) and one was not my fault (Dallas Marathon)

Number of sidelining injuries– 0. Yay! Thank you Pilates, strength training, cross training and rest-and a little bit of luck.

Cool personal running-related moments of 2012– being the FF Chicago Women’s Half “Expert” – 15 minutes of local “fame” and being added to the Chicago Running Bloggers group!

That’s that. I’m feeling very grateful for my “comeback” year. How did you do this year? What were your highlights?

I’m also working on a health and fitness recap post with help from my friends for this week. If you want to be included, let me know your bests and worsts in health and fitness this year. What worked (or didn’t) for you?
