Friday Finds: Managing STRESS, Friend’s Finds and Fun Deals

So I have been working on this CRAZY project at work for the last few weeks and have been thinking a lot about the impact of work place stress – the opposite of Tuesday’s post about work place health. Two colleagues told me that they lose a ton of weight and never sleep when they are stressed. They were men. I have been doing my best to keep up my exercise (even if it means setting the alarm in the 4 am hour or running for 15 minutes!) and to try not eat the entire candy jar every day. I have actually been doing more or less OK on both, but my shoulders are up around my ears and I feel like a pretzel. (Luckily, I have a gift certificate from my awesome sister-in-law for a massage at Bliss that I will try to get next week!)

I have been trying to stay positive and not be a Debbie-downer – especially after reading this article from Inc. Why Listening to Complainers is Bad for your Brain.

I also have not much time to “find” when I have to work so much… I did find 50 Ways to Cope with Stress on Pinterest:

And some links I like for dealing with stress:
13 Foods that Fight Stress from Prevention magazine.
3 Restorative Poses to Reduce Stress from Mind Body Green. Did someone say Savasana?
– A list I really need from the Greatist 40 Ways to Relax in 5 Minutes or Less. Many of these are old favorites but I especially like some new ideas like “listen to your favorite song” or stare out your window.
– Lastly for when this week is over (unfortunately Sunday for this project!) 5 Ways to Bliss After a Stressful Week of Work – the author encourages us to slip into gratitude mode and write 10 things we are grateful for. I will try it and let you know what I come up with on Monday when the big meeting is done!

What do you do for stress relief in high pressure times?

Friend’s Finds
Kelsey (my favorite rookie and hilarious blogger) told me that she e-mailed a salon about a deal she saw posted on a blog and they sent her this link to Salon Apprentice (and she looked at it and thought of me immediately!) – YAY. It shows you what salons need what and how much the services are – free haircuts! They advertise as “Licensed cosmetologists who obtain coveted training positions at renowned salons. Every week they are looking for male or female hair models for free or discounted services.”. They offer services in NY, Chicago, LA, San Fran, London and Sydney. I have heard of many of the salons in Chicago and NY. Seems worth a try – Kelsey is planning to try it and I hope she will report back!

Sarah R had the opportunity to see the tour of the Maitrya Project Heart Shrine Relic Tour when it visited Des Moines. What is it? A precious collection of sacred relics of the Buddha and many other Buddhist masters is touring the world. The relics were found from among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters. Visitors often report experiences of inspiration and healing when in the presence of the relics. While some are inspired to pray for world peace and to develop their inner wisdom, others are overcome by emotion as the powerful effects of the relics open their hearts to compassion and loving-kindness. As Sarah wisely reminds us, “we all could use some extra blessings and open hearts.” Check out tour dates here.

I still had some time to find DEALS!
Another repeater from Groupon and the CTA – $9 for a 3-Day CTA Pass ($14 Value). Great for visitors and daily commuters. Even better for the days with more than 2 trips!

My boss at work is obsessed with Uber and New York Magazine has a deal for Uber in NYC $19 for $40 worth of car trips. (Kath – I think this has your name written on it!) What is Uber? Uber is your on-demand private driver. Request a ride at any time using our iPhone and Android apps or from m.uber.com. (it is basically an online dispatcher of cabs and cars in cities around the country. They have cool, GPS based finders and stuff. I would get this deal in Chicago for the tough spots when you just can’t get a cab.)

Summer Finds “Blissmobox”

Want to try BlissMo box without a long term commitment? Check out the summer clearance 4 of their boxes (Doggie Days, Pristine and Clean, Spa and Relaxation or Summer Essentials) for less than $20 each including shipping. What is a Blissmobox? [I got a summer essentials box this summer and it was definitely worth the price! It was a great chance to try new products and an excellent set of new items to try.]

Living Social has a fun NYC deal for residents or visitors $24 for Sidewalks of NY Tours (50% off) lower east side or west village walking food tour with six tastings. They look fun and delicious! (I am really missing NYC! Hopefully Sapna is bringing me a black and white cookie ;))

OK – that’s all for now! Have a great weekend! Let me know if you find anything worth blabbing about.
