Olympics and Other Obsessions

It’s July… and that means – THE OLYMPICS! I LOVE the Olympics. I would love to watch them all day long, but will have to settle for obsessively following twitter and FB and reading the news all day long once they start on July 25th.

I have been enjoying lots of awesome articles on Olympians – especially female athletes in all of my magazines and websites. Links I Like will be dedicated to things I am obsessed with starting with the Olympics and including other random obsessions!

Links I Like – Olympics!
[Editors note: I did not start this thread in order to post the gratuitous photos that follow but the articles I have been reading in this month’s Women’s Health and Self are not yet online! Will post when they are!]

  • Time Magazine has “100 Olympians to Watch” (#31 is the perfect opportunity to show my brush with the Olympics – yup that is me and Marie running with Paula Radcliffe (please ignore that she is 6 months pregnant AND she still beat me!)

  • I also LOVE Meb! Check out an article on his Olympic marathon trials win here. Since I am showing all of my “brushes with Olympic fame” — I must show that I met Meb! I cannot claim to have kept up with him in the first mile in any race but I did keep up with him on the dance floor at a wedding (of one of my favorite Oly marathon trials qualifier, Kelly!)
Yup, me and Meb!

Other stuff I am obsessed with at the moment – coconut water, kale, lists, running shoes…
Did you know?

  • Last summer, I had to take medication that was counter indicated with green veggies especially kale – due to high amounts of vitamin K. I had to take these meds for 6 months and was jonesing for some spinach or kale – now I am (yup, you guessed it) addicted to the stuff! Frank Lipman (who I am also a bit obsessed with at the moment) gives us “5 Reasons to Eat Kale.
  • I am really into lists – especially lists of lessons learned to help me keep things in perspective. Check out “Lessons Learned and New Beginnings“. I can’t pick which of these is best to me, but I really like “People aren’t Lazy” and “Stay Calm and Don’t Take it Personally”. So very true.
  • I have a zillion pairs of running shoes and am obsessed with finding the perfect ones (like my beloved bright blue Karhu Fast Rides!) Check out this info graphic from REI on finding the best running shoes for you.

  • A Deal I am Obsessed With! Well, I am obviously obsessed with deals in general, but today I am obsessed with this one!I am definitely a little fixated on New York Mouth. I love local food, farmers markets, small businesses, cookies, most things New York and care packages. Daily Candy Deals has 2 of New York Mouth’s awesome gift packs on sale for 27% and 33% off. The “Wake Up Call Taster” (coffee, granola and cookies) or the “Cookie Monster Taster” (4 kinds of cookies from awesome small bakers in a NY mouth tote bag with surprises! Did you say surprises?!) are calling to me. I must resist, but think if you have to send a little something, you should not. They have such cool combos and gifts. Check it out!
  • I have also recently been a bit obsessed with sweepstakes. I have mentioned in the past that I enter things and wonder if anyone ever wins. I go in phases where I enter my “shopping e-mail” a zillion times creating massive spam and minimal winning. (I did win Chike coffee favored protein powder with caffeine from Kelsey’s blog recently and can’t wait to try it!!) I also am obsessed with healthy snacks (see: my pantry) (and I guess just snacks in general…) so Shape magazines “31 Days of Healthy Snack Giveaways” is for me. On the upside, their newsletter is really good. On the down side – I think a lot of people enter these and I have never won anything – YET!

Oh… and the WINNERS of my give aways from last week… Amy S. gets the coupon code for $25 off at Body Language Sportswear and Lisa F. gets $30 off on cool totes, grocery bags and liners at OG Sack. I will send the codes via email! Congrats!!

That’s all for now! What are you obsessed with at the moment? Come on, you can tell me!
