Friday Finds: Having a Sous Chef & Travel, Scavenger Hunt and Running Deals…

A while ago I recapped some of the deals that I bought and whether they were thumbs up or down. I had yet to try my 3 dinners for 2 from Meez Meals. What is Meez Meals? It is a local (Chicago land area) home delivery service of ingredients for healthy, vegetarian spa-like cuisine. All of the ingredients are prepped and ready, so it is like having your own sous chef. The recipes are easy to follow and come with nutrition information and a rating of how difficult they are to make.

They offer weekly menus featuring five vegetarian recipes plus suggestions for vegans and meat eaters. Recyclable bags and reusable coolers make deliveries eco-friendly and safely storable for twelve hours without refrigeration.

So, I may have mentioned before that I am not much of a cook… (And if you don’t believe me, you could ask Kathy, Lisa, Lauren and Debbie about the lasagna noodle incident…) Well, I have improved since then but I really don’t have the patience for cooking (I am a terrible baker – ask Pam – but that is a story for another day!) Truly though, I don’t like prep and clean up, so this seemed like my kind of deal!

The Daily Candy deal was $43 for 3 dinners for 2. It is normally $65. The servings for 2 are more like 3 or 4 – very generous.

I selected 3 items:
1. Toasted Gnocchi with Golden Tomatoes (20 minutes to table – rated 1 whisk (super easy))
2. Chili-Lime Glass Noodles (15 minutes to table – rated 1 wisk (super easy))
3. Avocado Kale Salad w. Tortilla Crisps (30 minutes to table – rated 1 wisk (super easy))

Here is the kit for the Chili Lime Noodles – everything is labeled, clean and easy!

So easy a caveman could do it!

Here is the finished product for the Gnocchi:

The Gnocchi was terrific – there was a ton of tomatoes and spinach and just a little oil. The flavors were great and I made 3 full meals out of it. With a salad – would have been 4 meals. I also made the kale salad buy without the tortillas, farro and avocado. I will use those in another dish. The kale salad and dressing were terrific and there was plenty of veggies to keep me full.

All in all, it was great. The pricing is flexible – the best rate is 3 dinners for 2. You can get dinners for 1 but it is pricy, so good for a couple or family or for having company (or multiple servings.)

Great news, they included $20 off coupons for new customers. So if you want to give it a try use the promotional code Gift20 at sign up and bon appetit!

Friday Finds:

Tippr has a deal for Travelocity Hotels $50 for $100. You have to buy through the Travelocity Incentives website (but the prices look good). If you have to book a trip, go for it! (Promotional value is through 3/31/2013.)

This local deal for Chicago from Daily Candy Deals is very intriguing to me. Waxwing Puzzle Co, a Chicago-based company organizes scavenger hunts and role-playing games that have you finding clues and solving mysteries in group settings. Upcoming games include Speakeasy, a Prohibition era game. There are no scripts or planted actors; it’s just you and your teammates strategizing to solve the puzzle. And there’s the race-to-the-finish Labyrinth challenge, for which clues, puzzles, and secrets are scattered throughout the Pedway. Players compete against other teams to track down hidden marks in downtown’s mazelike underground tunnels. Sounds fun! $32 for an event for 2 people and $60 for an event for 4 people. Seems like an inexpensive and fun way to spend an evening! Check out the schedule here.
I also saw a couple of running deals. I am not sold on this but it could be good for the ultra folks. Gearbuzz has 50% off on “gas cap” visors and hats – cute name as you can stow your fuel (gels) there! Also, Active Schwaggle has 50% off Emergency ID bracelets from Gone for a Run. These bracelets – like RoadIDs – are a great idea for runners and cyclists in case of emergency. (Schwaggle has 50% off on select Timex sports watches but seems like they jacked the price — seems just ok!)
Did you check out my post yesterday on Sneakpeeq and The Fancy? Check out these social shopping deal sites and let me know what you think! (and there is still a little time to get a great deal on Wild Squirrel nut butter!)

That’s all for now! Hope you have a great weekend! I am very excited to get my Olympics on!
